Inferia ◆ Celestia — out October 16, 2026
Tales of Eternia Remastered

Tales of Eternia Remastered FAQ

Quick answer

This is a remaster of the 2001 PlayStation release, not a remake: the same story and systems, with new visuals, restored skits, a new English script and quality-of-life options.

Short answers to the questions this game generates most often, from the release itself through to how its systems actually work.

The release

When does it come out? Officially October 16, 2026 worldwide. It unlocks at 15:00 PDT on October 15, which is why American store pages print the 15th.

Is it a remake or a remaster? A remaster. The story, the battle system and the Craymel mechanics are the original game's; the visuals, the English script and the dub are new, and a set of quality-of-life options sits on top.

Which platforms? PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam — all releasing together.

Is there multiplayer? No. Single-player only, with achievements, cloud saves and full controller support.

Which languages have voice acting? English and Japanese are the two with full audio. Ten languages have interface and subtitle support.

Playing it

Do I need to have played an earlier Tales game? No. This is one of the earliest entries in the series and its systems are self-contained.

Which party member should I control? Reid, for most of the game. He has the broadest weapon compatibility, the fastest artes and the best stagger game.

Why do my spells sometimes not come out? Because only one spell can be animated at a time, for either side. If a second caster is holding an incantation, or an enemy is mid-cast, your spell is queued rather than cast. Bring one dedicated caster rather than two.

Is the game hard? The original balance is moderate, and the remaster adds options in both directions. Extreme is available from the start if you want a harder first run, and the Unknown difficulty unlocks after you complete the game.

Can I turn encounters off? Yes. Encounter control is one of the remaster's toggles, separate from Boost, which adjusts experience and encounter rate together.

Is the Boost feature cheating? It is a pacing tool the remaster added deliberately. It does not change enemy parameters, only how much experience you gain and how often you meet enemies.

The story and the worlds

What is the Grand Fall? The collision course between the game's two worlds. It is a theory rather than a timer — there is no countdown mechanic, and you are free to explore at your own pace.

Why are there two worlds? Inferia and Celestia face each other across a barrier in the sky, with opposite elements and opposite attitudes to the spirits they both use. The cultural split is the setting's actual subject, not a background detail.

Do I need to finish Inferia before going to Celestia? Effectively yes. The route to the second world is a one-way crossing in a specific place, and the story gates it behind the Inferian Craymels.

What is Melnics? The written and spoken language of Celestia and of Craymels. Written Melnics maps one symbol to one English letter, so Celestian signs are readable. The party needs Orz Earrings before they can understand it spoken.

Practical questions

Where do the boss numbers on this site come from? The game's own monster records, which are viewable in-game. Difficulty multiplies enemy parameters — by 20% on Hard and 50% on Hardcore — but elemental weaknesses and drop tables do not change.

Do I lose anything by skipping skits? Only character scenes. They are the largest chunk of optional content and none of them gate progression.

What is worth doing after the credits? The Glimmer Spire for experience and accessories, then Nereid's Labyrinth. The Unknown difficulty is there for a replay rather than as a completion requirement.
